Behind the Wallpaper
We are currently preparing to tour our third production ‘Behind the Wallpaper’. Inspired by Charlotte Perkins Gillman’s ‘The Yellow Wallpaper’, we explore one woman’s struggle with Postnatal Depression and the subsequent destructive effects it has on her life and relationships.
For two in every one thousand new mothers, Postnatal Depression develops into something far more frightening – Postpartum Psychosis. Within just a few days, they can experience hallucinations and feel disconnected from reality.
Inspired by accounts of real women, Behind the Wallpaper is a gripping and poignant piece of theatre, which will leave you questioning if enough is being done to help sufferers of Postpartum Psychosis. Has our understanding and perception of mental health improved since Gilman’s warnings in her 1899 story?
Behind the Wallpaper debuts at The Bay Theatre, Weymouth College on Thursday 19th June 2014 at 7.30pm. Tickets are £8 (£6 concessions) and can be booked by calling 01305 208702 or you can booked on line by clicking HERE. We will be announcing the rest of our tour dates shortly.

Past Productions
Cleansed
Our debut play, ‘Cleansed’ exposed the shocking truth behind Ireland’s Magdalene Laundries, institutions for ‘fallen women’ where ‘voluntary prisoners’ were incarcerated to ‘wash their sins away.’ We explored the uncomfortable subject of how British society failed generations of women and children by allowing them to be wrongfully imprisoned and brutalised, and we asked what has happened to the survivors, our present day victims who cope with life in the aftermath of these traumatic experiences? The play debuted at The Bay Theatre, Weymouth and was then performed at Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2012, where it received four star reviews and moving feedback from audience members, some of which had relatives who suffered the laundries. Captive Minds
Captive Minds journeyed into the dark world of obsession, exploring the morbidity of the human psyche and the charm of a damaged soul. In this play, Rummage Theatre delved in to the mind of a serial killer and his relationship with three different women. We continued to question your moral convictions and challenged social preconceptions, asking if it is possible for a psychopath to be the catalyst for good? Once again, we took the play to Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2013 and received encouraging feedback. “Captive Minds was engrossing; the creepy character of Arty Clarkey and the story was unsettling; all the characters had impact and the performance gave us food for thought.” We also toured Dorset village halls and theatres.
